In June of this year, Anna Wintour made headlines as news broke that she would be stepping down as the head editor of Vogue. In the following months, readers of the magazine speculated about who would be next in line for the Vogue throne. On Tuesday, the company announced that 39-year-old Chloe Malle would be filling Wintour's shoes. So, who is she, and where does she plan on taking the magazine?

Chloe Malle is far from a no-name. She is the daughter of famous television actress Candice Bergen and French film director and screenwriter Louis Malle. As a child, she grew up in Los Angeles but eventually moved to New York City as a teenager. She attended Brown University, where she studied comparative literature and writing.

She began her career as an intern for the New York Observer and eventually moved on to work at multiple prominent publications such as The New York Times, WSJ Magazine, and Architectural Digest. She started working for Vogue in 2011 as their social editor, eventually becoming the editor of Vogue.com in 2023. In 2022, she became the co-host of Vogue's podcast, 'The Run-Through,' alongside Chioma Nnadi, the Head Editor of British Vogue. She continues to host the podcast while taking on her new role.

Although some are making claims of nepotism, Chloe embraces her "nepo baby" status. In an interview with The New York Times released on Tuesday, she stated she was a "proud nepo baby."

“There is no question that I have 100 percent benefited from the privilege I grew up in. It’s delusional to say otherwise. I will say, though, that it has always made me work much harder. It has been a goal for a lot of my life to prove that I’m more than Candice Bergen’s daughter, or someone who grew up in Beverly Hills.”

Chloe aims to create a more niche following for Vogue. In the past, she was instrumental in making Jack Schlossberg (JFK's grandson) Vogue's political correspondent during the 2024 election cycle. She has also had some more controversial moments, such as featuring Lauren Sanchez Bezos on the digital cover of Vogue, which received backlash online.

Malle has expressed nothing but excitement about taking on her new role while still working with Anna Wintour as her mentor. Wintour is not making a complete exit from Vogue; instead, she is taking on a new title. Malle has stated that Vogue "has shaped who she is" and that she is looking forward "to the prospect of shaping Vogue." With an extensive history and over a decade with the company, Chloe Malle is ready to take her journalistic integrity and shine at the forefront of the fashion magazine monolith that is Vogue. There is no doubt that Malle is prepared to deliver for readers in the U.S.
