In a post-pandemic world, it’s become more common for full-time office jobs to shift into hybrid roles or go fully remote. Over the past five years, we've seen a wave of fashion trends, many of which have made their way into the workplace. If you’re anything like me, a post-college grad on the job hunt, you might feel unsure about what to wear to interviews or day-to-day, especially in a hybrid setting. The good news is that workwear in 2025 doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. You're allowed to still look polished while prioritizing comfort. Work fashion also doesn’t have to be boring, you can stay true to your personal style while following your job’s dress code.
The 2010s were all about business casual. (Who remembers wearing fitted blazers and statement necklaces to the club?) Once the pandemic hit, dress codes relaxed. Think nice tops with pajama pants on Zoom calls. Now, workwear has evolved again and yhe vibe is casual but powerful. Pencil skirts and stiff blazers are out. Social media has completely shifted the way we view office fashion. With Gen Z’s influence and daily OOTDs flooding our feeds, there are endless ways to make work outfits feel stylish and personal.
I don’t really believe in strict fashion rules, but it’s still important to consider your work environment. If you’re in a corporate role, professional wear is expected. In tech or creative industries, the dress code is usually more relaxed. Some trending aesthetics might be tempting, like the “office siren” or “office vixen” looks, but it’s better to avoid anything that feels too suggestive for work. Business-core is chic and expressive, but keeping your employer happy should still be a priority. When getting dressed, stick to midi or longer skirts, trousers or slacks, and tops that cover your stomach.
Silk Midi Skirt
Comfortable, light, and breezy. An elegant piece that keeps things professional while still feeling elevated.

Striped Button Up
Classic and easy to wear. Oversized fits are super comfortable and perfect for warmer days or for covering tattoos.

Black or Grey Wide Leg Trousers
Staple office pieces that go with everything. Some pairs are even made with stretch or soft waistbands for extra comfort.

Close Toed Kitten Heels
Short heels are ideal if you want to look dressed up without the pain. Adds polish without sacrificing comfort.

Chunky Penny Loafers
Once broken in, these are the perfect mix of style and comfort. A great choice for an everyday office shoe.

Oversized Blazer
Roomy but still structured when tailored right. Balances style and professionalism effortlessly.

Big Work Bag
Fits everything you need for a 9 to 5. Look for something structured and functional.

Boat Neck Tops
Chic and timeless. A must-have silhouette for building a workwear capsule wardrobe.

Body Suits
Comfy and sleek, especially in extra soft fabrics. The perfect base layer for almost any outfit.

Dark Wash Jeans
If your job allows denim, a clean dark wash is your best bet. Pairs perfectly with a striped button up or neutral top.

Cardigans
Ideal for chilly office air conditioning. Easy to layer and great to keep on hand.

Matching Sets
The modern version of a power suit. Put together without feeling too formal.

White Tennis Shoes
A clean pair works with a ton of looks. Keeps you comfortable through long commutes or office days.

Personal Styled Jewelry
Let your personality show through your accessories. Bag charms, bold earrings, or layered pieces can add a fun touch.

Ballet Flats
Comfy, simple, and timeless. Great for office days when you’re on your feet.

Sustainability is key when it comes to building your work wardrobe. You want pieces that will last and are made well. Two brands that are both sustainable and great for workwear, whether you're hybrid or fully in-office, are Pact and Quince. Quince is a bit more affordable while still prioritizing sustainable practices. If you’re looking to shop sustainably on a budget, check out local thrift stores, Depop, or Mercari. These are great options for 20-somethings trying to save money while building a stylish and responsible closet.
In 2025, you don’t have to choose between comfort and professionalism. Let your workwear reflect not just your role, but your style and energy. Share your favorite work outfits and tag us @thefemmecollectivee on Instagram.
