With summer winding down, it's the perfect time to squeeze in one last getaway, and what's a trip without a gripping book to keep you company? Whether you're unwinding on a beach or soaring to a dream destination, a page-turning thriller is an absolute must. To save you time at the bookstore, I've curated a list of my top picks, plus a highly anticipated "to be read" title, guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.
All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers

When journalist Margot Davies returns to her hometown of Wakarusa, Indiana, to care for her uncle, she's confronted with news of a gruesome murder eerily similar to the unsolved killing of her childhood friend, January. Still haunted by January's death, Margot becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth, desperate to find out if the same person is responsible for both tragedies. This is a great entry book to thriller novels and I'd recommend to readers new to the genre.
The Guest List by Lucy Foley

Set on a remote Irish island, this thrilling mystery unfolds through the perspectives of seven different characters at a seemingly perfect wedding. But beneath the surface of the bride and groom's idyllic lives, secrets are brewing, threatening to unravel everything. This is the perfect vacation read as it is fast paced and sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Fresh out of a psychiatric stay, deeply troubled investigative reporter Camille Preaker is tasked with covering a murder case in her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri, where her spiteful mother and stepfather still reside. As Camille delves into the investigation, she battles her own inner demons and strained family dynamics, determined to uncover the truth behind the murders. (Content Warning: This book contains mature themes including self-harm, sexual assault, and disturbing scenes, and may not be suitable for all readers.)
A Flicker in the Dark by Stacey Willingham

Psychiatrist Chloe Davis is thrown into a terrifying spiral when multiple girls begin to disappear in her town. As she digs deeper into the crimes, Chloe is forced to confront the traumatic past of her father's own crimes from her childhood. Family secrets and trust are shattered as Chloe races to expose the truth. This book is highly popular on book-tok and is in set to get a series produce by Emma Stone production company! A Flicker in the Dark was my favorite read of last summer.
Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Struggling author Finlay Donovan accidentally finds herself embroiled in a murder plot when a stranger overhears her discussing her crime novel. Mistaken for a contract killer, Finlay's life becomes a hilarious and dangerous juggle of parenting, writing, and an unexpected new career that spirals deliciously out of control, blending dark humor with thrilling escapades. This book is currently on my TBR list and I am super excited to crack it open.
Which of these heart-pounding reads will you be packing for your final summer adventure.
